Organisation
ZMSBw (Bundeswehr Centre of Military History and Social Sciences) is a federal research institution within the remit of the Ministry of Defence. We conduct fundamental research on the topics military history, military sociology, and security policy.
Our research and knowledge transfer serves the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces), the acadamic community as well as the public. The results are made available to Federal Ministry of Defence as information, Decision-making aids and advisory service.
Our centre consists of two main divisions:

Additionally, we have an administrative and support branch, including the staff, a publications section and our library.
The Bundeswehr Museum of Military History in Dresden and its permanent exhibition at Königstein Fortress as well as the Bundeswehr Museum of Military History in Berlin-Gatow (formerly known as Air Force Museum) are subordinate to ZMSBw.
